Once upon a Nether journey, in the dark and fiery chasm,
While I wandered, wary, peering, through the hellish Nether shore –
While I trekked, my sword was swinging, suddenly there came a clinking,
As of ghasts and blazes lurking, lurking in the Nether’s core.
“‘Tis some danger,” I whispered, “lurking in the Nether’s core –
Only this and nothing more.”

Through the fortress gates I ventured, when, with many a flicker, flaming,
There appeared a fiery Ghast from the hellish days of yore;
Not a warning did he offer; not a second did he linger;
But with fiery eyes of danger, floated ‘bove the Nether floor –
Floating ‘bove the flowing lava on the dark and fearsome floor –
Floating, screaming, nothing more.

Then this ghastly Ghast, igniting, my fierce anger into fighting,
By the dread and wild demeanor of its ghastly, gaping maw,
“Though thy eyes are full of fire, thou,” I said, “shall feel my ire,
Wicked demon from the Nether, haunting me forevermore –
Tell me what thy mission is from this dark and fearsome shore!”
Quoth the Ghast “Forevermore.”

And its eyes have all the horror of a demon’s fiery mirror,

Shall be lifted – nevermore!
